India - 58 and still growing

It has been 58 glorious years since attaining Independence from the British and the country seems to be growing rapidly. Despite a lot of factors like change in guard at the central and state politics, natural calamities in the recent past (tsunami, floods), corruption, Indian economy is looking good and the bull continues to run.

What really amazes me about my country is with a population of 1 billion plus people who follow different religions, speak multitude of languages, diverse customs & cultures, varities of food, different forms of art & music, etc; With so much of diversity the integrity is still found in the hearts of many but not all. It is truly democratic, we have President who is a Muslim and PrimeMinister who is a Sikh, this speaks for itself about our Nation. Speaking more about these great men who are ruling my country, i guess you won't find any other President nor PrimeMinister who is qualified as them.

Impressive Bios:
India is the most popular country searched on Google in the month of June 2005.

I consider India an amazing country. The provinces in India are more diverse then the countries in Europe, it has over a billion people and has only been independent for 58 years yet it has come so far. It is so developed given it's circumstances, and through good leadership has been able to shape itself, learning from other's past experiences. Truly an accomplishment, something to be proud of, not just for Indians, but for all of mankind.

Hey SC!

We are diverse, but still a developing nation. I hope every nation learns from it's past and make this world a better place to live.

Satz, Thanks for the link to the interesting interview of Roy, she does throw light over many things which were dark to me. She has summarise her thoughts on many aspects of globalisation, political parties & their ideals, IT, Economy, Casteism, War on Iraq, recent ties b/w India & US, many things more.

Well i agree with her many of her thoughts, but i have just one Q'n for her and i.e "How do we bring some kind of change in our system?." Airing her thoughts is fine, but she must also propose some kind of soultion for it. To change the system, we need to be within the system.

As we all know in our Political system the Prez is just 4 namesake, doesn't have any kind of power. I am not very sure whether our PM is a mere pawn/toy @ all times.

Moreover this post was a dig at the *offspring* of our Nation.

I consider India the most amazing place to live sheerly for the opportunity it offers to change the world as we know today.

I think Manmohan Singh is an ok guy.. It all depends on weather Madam Mania and the coterie let him function freely.

Gandhi was a great guy. There were other great people like Netaji, Patel and Sastri who have contributed equally to this country.
